London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art

LAMDA began offering speech examinations to the public in the 1880s. Since then, these examinations have been refined and developed into a comprehensive system of performance evaluation by experts in education, acting and communication. In addition to being the UK’s largest statutory speech and drama awarding body, LAMDA Examinations has a reputation for excellence across the globe. LAMDA examinations are designed to equip learners, whatever their age or aspirations, with a range of skills that will serve them throughout life. LAMDA Examinations is a UK statutory awarding body, specialising in Communication and Performance examinations. We currently offer Graded examinations in the following subjects: Communication

  • Speaking Verse and Prose
  • Reading for Performance
  • Using Spoken English
  • Speaking in Public Performance
  • Acting
  • Devising Drama
  • Miming
  • Musical Theatre



There are 3 levels of Introductory exams, an entry level exam and then a grading system 1-8 similar to the music exams.



*LAMDA Examinations and the UCAS Tariff

LAMDA Examinations’ accredited higher level qualifications are included in the UCAS Tariff. Students passing any of our QCF-accredited Level 3 exams will be able to claim between 20 and 90 UCAS points, comparable with their attainment. Within the current Communication , Performance and Musical Theatre syllabuses, all qualifications are accredited. A Group syllabus for Group examinations is also available but these are not accredited and do not carry UCAS points.
